Our Mission is to Save Souls
We are a group of parishioners across the St Cloud Diocese working to save souls by appealing the decisions to close churches & merge parishes. Canon Law says churches are Holy and Sacred places, which are only to be closed for a GRAVE concern. The Congregation for the Clergy reaffirms Canon Law that a “scarcity of diocesan clergy” and the “lack of clergy” are NOT sufficient reasons for the “suppression of parishes” or the “reduction of churches”. 73% of last year's newly ordained priests were altar servers. How many altar server opportunities will be lost by closing half of our churches? A death spiral.
If we lose appeals, our Mission does NOT change. Our focus will shift to encouraging parishioners to stay with their faith but work to maintain control of our financial contributions. Plans will be shared at a later date.
History has shown us that we will lose 25-50+ % of parishioners of churches that are being closed. Using a very conservative estimate of 10,000 parishioners affected by closures, that is 2,500 – 5,000 souls. Using a more realistic figure of 20,000 affected, that is 5,000 – 10,000 lost souls! What would Jesus do? He tells us in the “parable of the lost sheep”. What will you do? Please join us.

Canon Law
Can. 1214 By the term church is understood a sacred building designated for divine worship to which the faithful have the right of entry for the exercise, especially the public exercise, of divine worship.
Can 212 §2. The Christian faithful are free to make known to the pastors of the Church their needs, especially spiritual ones, and their desires.
Rights of Faithful
Code of Canon Law - Book II - The People of God - Part I. (Cann. 208-329)
Can. 1222 §1. If a church cannot be used in any way for divine worship and there is no possibility of repairing it, the diocesan bishop can relegate it to profane but not sordid use.
Pastoral Conversion
50. With respect to the suppression of Parishes, the decree must clearly state the reasons that led the Bishop to make this decision. The just cause therefore, must be specifically indicated, it being insufficient simply to refer to the “good of souls”.
Ordinarily, also in this case, the legitimate causes for decreeing such a reduction do not include reasons like the lack of clergy, demographic decline or the grave financial state of the Diocese. However, if the building is in such a state as to be unable to be used for divine worship in any way, and there is no possibility of repairing it, then the Bishop can proceed, according to the norm of law, to reduce it to profane but not sordid use.
