Updated ACC Proposals

**infrequently used are the churches proposed to close**

What is lost with a merger?

Things to consider and why get a group together:

How will this affect: Faith Formation, Funeral Lunch Groups, Christan Mothers, Knights of Columbus, Etc.

Money in your accounts- your assets (money, statues, etc.) and debts will be shared. Is your parish which is in the black, merge with a parish in the Red. Appealing can prevent this. Please prayerfully consider forming a group

Canon Law

“Can. 1222 §1. If a church cannot be used in any way for divine worship and there is no possibility of repairing it, the diocesan bishop can relegate it to profane but not sordid use.

§2. Where other grave causes suggest that a church no longer be used for divine worship, the diocesan bishop, after having heard the presbyteral council, can relegate it to profane but not sordid use, with the consent of those who legitimately claim rights for themselves in the church and provided that the good of souls suVers no detriment thereby.”

Code of Canon Law - Book IV - Function of the Church: Part III: Sacred places and times (Cann. 1205-1243)

"Ordinarily, also in this case, the legitimate causes for decreeing such a reduction do not include reasons like the lack of clergy, demographic decline or the grave financial state of the Diocese. However, if the building is in such a state as to be unable to be used for divine worship in any way, and there is no possibility of repairing it, then the Bishop can proceed, according to the norm of law, to reduce it to profane but not sordid use."
